About the course

It’s important to set big goals; life is so much more interesting when you do.
But as much fun as it is to set big goals, it’s even more fun to actually achieve them.
Maybe you want to improve your fitness. Perhaps you’re pursuing a degree. You might be trying to quit smoking, or stop drinking, or do something else to improve your health or change your behavior. It may be that your goals are professional in nature: you want a new job, or a promotion at work, or to sell as many products as you can. Big goals like these get you excited; the trick is to turn that excitement into action.
Taught by Dr William Thomas, Cross The Lines will help you make plans and find ways to achieve your big goals. Based on his own experience as an international marathoner — going from being a 42-year old who had never run before to a 50-year old running a marathon at the North Pole — William shares ten key techniques that will help you get started in the right direction and follow through until you succeed. By helping you define your goals and figure what’s needed to achieve them, this course not only helps you advance to the Finish Line, it also helps you build the confidence to get you across the Starting Line.

International Leadership Coach
Hi! My name’s Will, and I’ve had some pretty great experiences in my life. If you’re up for it, I’d like to use the lessons I’ve learned to help you create some ideas for your own life.
Leadership coaching and consulting
I have been working throughout Asia since 2012. I started out as an HR consultant with Western and Asian multinational corporations, then ran my own leadership training and coaching business for a few years, and am now a geopolitical consultant for a global business advisory service. These days I’m based in Singapore, and have also lived in Bangkok and Manila. As a leadership coach I have worked with both senior executives and current students, helping them get ready for their careers and be the best version of themselves they can be.
International marathoner
I am one of the few people in the world to complete The Marathon Grand Slam: running a marathon on all 7 continents and at the North Pole. I have also completed all 6 Abbott World Marathon Majors (Boston, Tokyo, New York, Berlin, Chicago, London). Fun fact: I only started running at age 42. It’s never too late to start something new!
I was never athletic as a kid (my father was a marathoner, but not me), and I certainly started late in life, but I have gone on to have some life-changing experiences as a runner. I am not unusual; ANYONE can chase their dreams, whether in running or more broadly in life.
Before all of this…
I spent 21 years as an officer in the United States Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel and spending most of my career as a strategic planner for complex operations such as humanitarian assistance and counterterrorism. I have been a professor of political science in the US and taught as a Fulbright Scholar in Singapore. I hold a PhD in public policy as well as a degree in economics and an MBA.
