Documentary Film Interviewing Techniques

I am excited about my new journey into online skills courses and the overall positive response these have had. I really appreciate the time students have taken to review my courses. Feedback is essential for me and I invite students to tell me about their experiences.

To be clear – the courses I have uploaded are all aimed at beginner and intermediate documentary filmmakers. My focus is also more on content development than refining or improving your technical filmmaking skills.  

The aim with the Skillshare courses is to progressively cover several aspects of documentary filmmaking – and these will hopefully help develop your skills across the broad spectrum of filmmaking. My focus is on giving you access and experience into the full range of production skills. Each new course that I upload will cover another aspect of documentary film production.

I am particularly excited about developments around online media platforms and the audiences that these offer. The reach of film today is incredible. And you as an aspiring filmmaker have the power to send your voice and message out all over the world. Whatever your passion, you can tell people about it.

My personal interest in filmmaking covers mainly social justice issues that affect people, animals and the environment. I am a proponent of telling stories through people, bringing their narratives to life. And the better and more interesting your content the more viewers you will have. Years ago I attended some training at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and there I learnt that as a filmmaker who tells stories you always have to look for interesting people who do interesting things in interesting places. And that has stayed with me.
