About the course

Are You Keeping Track of Your Income and Expenses Each Month?

If not, then this lesson is crucial for you. Get a budget today! And one of the best methods to budget, too!

Budgeting is the process of creating a plan to spend your money. This spending plan is called a budget. Creating this spending plan allows you to determine in advance whether you will have enough money to do the things you need to do or would like to do.

Budgeting is simply balancing your expenses with your income. If they don’t balance and you spend more than you make, you will have a problem. Many people don’t realize that they spend more
than they earn and slowly sink deeper into debt every year.

If you don’t have enough money to do everything you would like to do, then you can use this planning process to prioritize your spending and focus your money on the things that are most important to you.

Why is Budgeting so Important?

Since budgeting allows you to create a spending plan for your money, it ensures that you will always have enough money for the things you need and the things that are important to you. Following a budget or spending plan will also keep you out of debt or help you work your way out of debt if you are currently in debt.

Welcome to Envelope Budgeting Made Simple. In this course, we are going to take a look at a budgeting technique that is rather special because it attempts to solve several of the problems found in traditional budgeting.

  • Why Does It Work So Well
  • How Does Envelope Budgeting Work
  • Common Envelope Budgeting FAQs
  • How to Create Your Own Personalized System

At this point, you probably already know that budgeting is an extremely helpful tool.

So, join us for a fresh take on better budgeting with the envelope system.

What can you learn from this course?

I hope you are excited about your new personalized budget. But before we begin:

  • You can access your Budgeting Tracker here: CLICK THIS LINK. It is also available as an Excel file below.
  • Furthermore, you can locate your Monthly Expense Tracker worksheet below, as well.

Our class project has two goals:

  • Strengthen Your Budget’s Personalization
  • Help Others from your experience

We’re going to do two things with our project:

  1. ONE: The first thing I’d like you to do is get creative with your envelopes. Instead of using a plain white envelope, either buy decorative envelopes or create your own designs. Be creative. Use your favorite colors. Use beautiful font. Write inspirational quotes on them. Do whatever you want to make them truly yours. Then take a clear and bright photo of your envelopes and post them here on Skillshare.
  2. TWO: The second thing I’d like you to do is take another quick look at your envelope categories. Let us know what categories were most important to you. Let us know if you added any new categories that we didn’t cover in this course. Your experience can help others as they go through the same process. Post those categories here on Skillshare and why they are important to you at the same time you post pics of your creative envelopes.

Please complete and upload your project soon after completing this course. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask a question in the discussions section.

Work Harder on Yourself than Your Job!

Hi! My name is Cal Hyslop, and for over 14 years I have worked for SKKU, South Korea’s 2nd ranked university, as an instructor of English and Business courses. Before that, I received my MBA in the United States and worked for a number of years in healthcare administration. Reflecting on my recent accomplishments, what has brought me the most joy has been watching the proverbial ‘light bulbs’ go off in my students’ minds as they realized they could control and immensely alter their futures for the better by developing a certain set of core skills. This was the foundation of my Practical Leadership course in university and now a complete online course here on Skillshare titled Core 12 Life Skills. And what I’ve learned along the way and believe strongly now is the key to happiness and success is the continual effort to become better tomorrow than we are today. The great Jim Rohn said it best: “Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” But life isn’t always about self-development. When I’m not focusing on course development, I love to cook for my wife, daughter, and any friends who are willing to risk their dinners with my culinary experiments. If you’d like to learn more about the 12 core skills I mentioned above or other related areas of personal development, check out my current courses. Scroll through the list of classes I teach here on Skillshare and see what grabs your attention first. See you in class!
