WCF Web Service provides the ability to build web services that send messages using the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). SOAP is a platform-independent and language-independent protocol for building and accessing web services. Consumers of an WCF service do not need to know anything about the platform, object model, or programming language used to implement the service. They only need to understand how to send and receive SOAP messages.
WCF can be use to either create a SOAP web service or a restful web service.
In this course we are going to first learn how to create a web service. We will then learn how to consume a web service in an ASP .NET Web forms application and Windows forms desktop application. In this course we are going to create three WCF projects(not including clients projects) in total.The first project will be a simple calculator WCF SOAP web service, it will be consumed by both web forms and windows forms application.The second project will be a WCF Restful web service which will consumed by a web forms application with JQuery and Ajax. In last project of WCF web service , you will create and advanced web service of personal finance records. In this project we are going to implement CRUD operations to MSSQL database. We will further implement account registration and sign in functionality.
You will also learn how to secure a WCF SOAP web service from unauthorized client applications and how to test a WCF SOAP web service using SoapUI.
